Continuing the Journey

We had some spunky conversations last night, as Tashie was wakeful at times, and would check on preparations for our trip.

Slippers?  Check.
Car? check.
Kitties? Check.
Coffee? Check.
Her mood was one of anticipation, and her questions were circling around the question, What are we waiting for? Let's just go now.
When I said that I don't like driving at night, I'd be driving by braille, she said OK, I can wait. I told her we'd wait until sunrise, and then I'd be a better driver.
She has been sleeping since early morning, and seems peaceful. When she wakened briefly, Bob-O was sitting at her side. He started singing to her, I'll Never Let You Get Away From Me, by Julia Stein & Stephen Sondheim. It is a beautiful day, blue sky, crisp air, her beloved mountain standing watch, her creek gurgling away just outside her window....all of which we have described to her, as her eyes are closed.
She is making a gentle journey home.

  1. Eliza, thank you for keeping us in touch with Tash’s journey. It means a lot to us to be included among her many friends. I’ve known her since I was a little boy and she was a young woman. She has always been a special favorite of mine among my mother’s many friends. I’m especially grateful for the warmth with which she and the other members welcomed Janet into the Reading Club when she returned to Portland to begin a new life with me after 30 years away.
Tash, Janet and I send you our fondest wishes for peace and comfort in this journey that we, too, will make one day. You have lived a full and exemplary life, one that you should feel proud of and that we can spend the rest of our time on earth admiring, if not daring aspire to emulate. To me you are and always will be a true paragon.
    Peace and love,
    Bob & Janet

Tash —we love you long-distance from Toronto. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me and everyone who knew you throughout your life. You were Mum's favourite college buddy and I loved hearing you two trade stories on the porch. Have a gentle journey, surrounded by love. Please come back soon.x Plum
